Dr Ho Le Bao An completes the Invisalign MasterClass programme with an international specialist

Over two days, 17 and 18 November 2023, Dr Ho Le Bao An attended the Invisalign MasterClass, a clinical training programme taught by Dr Yau Yi Kwong of Hong Kong. Dr Yau is among the widely recognised specialists in using clear aligners to manage severe skeletal discrepancies and bite problems.

Controlling biomechanics in complex cases

The course went into the analysis and ClinCheck planning techniques used at the hard limits of clear aligner orthodontics. The main topics were:

• Controlling vertical discrepancies (open bite, deep bite) and anteroposterior ones (excessive overjet, underbite).
• Space closure mechanics and root positioning in cases indicated for premolar extraction.
• Treatment strategies written specifically for teenage patients (Invisalign Teen).

Treating as little as the case allows

The strongest theme of the course was a simplifying approach to the clinic. It aims to hold back overtreatment, reduce reliance on mini-screw anchorage and get the most out of the biomechanics of intermaxillary elastics.

That keeps treatment gentler and less invasive, and it makes the path of tooth movement more predictable — which in turn holds the refinement rate at the end of a stage as low as possible.
